Candle Care

At Majestic Sparks, we want to ensure you get the most out of every candle, whether it’s a beautifully crafted wooden wick candle, a charming sculpted candle, or a lovely wax melt. Proper care will enhance the burn time, scent throw, and overall experience. Here are some tips to help you care for your candles and wax melts.

Wooden Wick Candle Care

Wooden wicks offer a unique, crackling sound while they burn, creating a cozy, soothing atmosphere. To make sure your wooden wick candle burns optimally, follow these simple guidelines:

  • Trim the Wick

Before each use, trim the wooden wick to approximately 1/8" (3 mm). This will help prevent the candle from "mushrooming" and ensure an even burn.

  • Burn Time
The first time you light your wooden wick candle, let it burn long enough to create a full melt pool across the top of the candle. This typically takes about 2-3 hours. This will help prevent tunneling and allow for an even burn in the future.
  • Keep the Wick Clean

After the candle has cooled, gently remove any charred bits of wood from the wick to prevent it from producing too much smoke or flickering. Always ensure the wick is clean before lighting it again

  • Safety First
Never leave your candle burning unattended. Always burn it on a heat-resistant surface and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
  • Extinguishing the Flame
To avoid damaging the wick or wax, use a wick dipper or gently blow out the flame. Avoid blowing directly on the flame, as this can cause uneven wax pooling and soot.

Molded Candle Care

Molded candles are sculptural and make wonderful decorative pieces, but they still need proper care to burn safely and efficiently. Here are the best practices for molded candles:

  • Trim the Wick
Always trim the wick to about 1/4" (6 mm) before lighting. This helps ensure a clean burn and minimizes soot.
  • Burn Time
To prevent the candle from tunneling, allow it to burn long enough so that the melted wax pool reaches the edge of the container on its first burn. Typically, 2-3 hours is ideal for this.
  • Avoid Drafts
Molded candles are often more susceptible to uneven burning in drafty areas. Make sure your candle is placed in a spot free from direct airflow (like vents, fans, or open windows).
  • Candle Placement
Place your molded candle on a heat-resistant surface to prevent damage to furniture. Be mindful of the size and shape of the candle when burning, as larger molded candles may melt more quickly and create a larger wax pool.
  • Extinguishing the Flame
To safely extinguish the flame, use a snuffer or gently blow it out. Don’t touch the wick immediately after extinguishing, as it will be hot.

Wax Melt Care

Wax melts are a popular way to enjoy fragrance without the flame, and they’re easy to use. Here’s how to get the most out of your wax melts:

  • Use a Wax Warmer
Always use a proper wax warmer designed for wax melts. Avoid using candles or other heat sources that aren’t intended for melting wax.
  • Avoid Overloading
Depending on the size of your warmer, only place 1-2 pieces of wax melt at a time. Overloading the dish can cause the wax to overheat or spill over, affecting the scent throw.
  • When to Replace the Wax
Wax melts should be replaced when the scent begins to fade or after 6-8 hours of use. To remove the wax, let it cool completely and harden, then simply pop it out of the warmer. If the wax is still soft, place it in the freezer for a few minutes for easier removal.
  • Wax Warmer Maintenance
Keep your wax warmer clean to ensure the best performance. Regularly wipe the dish with a cloth to remove any residue. If wax gets stuck, use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol to help remove it.
  • Keep Away from Heat Sources
Keep your wax warmer on a stable, heat-resistant surface and avoid placing it near any flammable materials.

General Candle Safety Tips

  1. Always keep candles, wax melts, and warmers out of reach of children and pets.
  2. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish the flame when you leave a room or before going to bed.
  3. Always burn candles in a well-ventilated area.
  4. Make sure the candle is placed on a stable, flat surface to avoid tipping over.

By following these tips, you’ll extend the life of your candles and enjoy their full beauty and fragrance.
